In a captivating interaction at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad. Our Director Mr. Ankit Agrawal, shared invaluable insights on navigating the complexities of leading a family business. Featured in the Family Enterprise Quarterly January-March 2025 issue by ISB’s Thomas Schmidheiny Centre for Family Enterprise, highlighted the evolving dynamics of family-run businesses, with trust, innovation, and future-readiness for family enterprises.

During the interaction, Mr. Agrawal spoke passionately about the challenges and triumphs of earning trust in a family business environment. He reflected on how his entry into the company was initially a matter of necessity, but through consistent efforts and data-driven decision-making, he gained the confidence of both the team and his family. One of his boldest yet transformative moves was the adoption of an advanced payment model in the agarbatti industry, which helped MDPH improve its cash flow and streamline operations.

Family dynamics and business often intersect, and Mr. Agrawal candidly discussed how he and his brother, and our other Director Mr. Anshul Agrawal, have defined distinct roles within the company to maintain operational clarity and efficiency. While occasional differences with their father naturally arise, especially generational differences, it is their shared commitment to MDPH’s growth that keeps them aligned.

Looking ahead, Mr. Agrawal emphasized the importance of future-proofing family businesses.  Negligence, he mentioned, is a major threat to any successful enterprise. He highlighted the need for structured succession planning and professionalization while staying true to the core values that define the family business legacy.

When asked about his advice to young entrepreneurs stepping into family enterprises, Mr. Agrawal shared an inspiring message- maintain discipline, respect the family’s heritage, and always approach challenges with a mindset of innovation.
